Counselor in Training (CIT) – High School Internship
Quick Overview
Are you a creative high school student who enjoys art and helping younger kids? Our Counselor in Training (CIT) program offers a wonderful opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive and inspiring art studio environment.
CITs assist our teaching team while learning leadership skills and helping young artists during their creative projects.
What You’ll Do• Help prepare art supplies and materials
• Encourage and assist younger campers during projects
• Help supervise snack and lunch breaks
• Support studio set-up and clean-up
• Assist the teaching team during camp activities
What You’ll Gain
Being a Counselor in Training is more than volunteering — it’s a chance to build real skills while having a creative and meaningful summer.
CITs often gain:
• Leadership and teamwork experience
• Confidence working with younger children
• Hands-on experience in a creative studio environment
• Community service / volunteer hours for school
• Letters of recommendation for future jobs, college, or internships
• Opportunities to return in future summers as a paid counselor

- Ages: High school students
- Commitment: Minimum one week
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Compensation: Volunteer position (future stipend opportunities for returning CITs)

Responsibilities
• Prepare the studio space and art materials before camp
• Assist students during art projects with guidance and encouragement
• Supervise snack and lunch breaks and organize simple outdoor games
• Support the lead teacher with classroom flow and management
• Help with clean-up and studio organization
• Prepare student artwork for the end-of-week art show
• Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all campers
Experience & Skills
• Experience working with children (teaching, camps, childcare, or similar)
• Comfortable using basic art materials and techniques
• Strong communication skills with students and parents
• Ability to follow directions and support the lead teacher
• Ability to stand, bend, and carry materials during set-up and clean-up
Personal Qualities
• Patient, kind, and encouraging with students of all skill levels
• Reliable and punctual
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Flexible and adaptable in a lively camp setting
• A team player who enjoys collaboration

- Compensation: $17–$19 per hour depending on experience
